Then the next step is what the character’s motivation is in the story. They need to be consistent. At the same time, they need to have the reader believe they are complex and have emotional depth.
The character needs their own distinct voice and interactions. But the author needs to take care not to overdo it with this character even if they are a main character. Nothing bores readers than to have too much of a backstory rather than. All the elements for the character give them dimension. This makes it necessary to give this character life, but then the question is how to tell it by showing rather than telling and making the story boring.
